Her Revival
Her Revival marks a return to creative clarity.
This original mosaic emerged during a period when I was finding my way back to the studio - and back to the quiet discipline of making. The composition draws from an early photographic study of a local B-Girl whose natural poise and self-possession stayed with me for decades.
Rather than render the figure literally, I was interested in capturing presence through movement, rhythm, and material. Flowing lines of hand-cut tesserae move across large-scale, contour-cut handmade subway tile, creating a layered surface that shifts subtly with light and viewing distance.
There is a restorative quality embedded in this piece: a reminder that creative energy can be rekindled, and that staying the course often reveals unexpected beauty along the way.
Materials & Process
Hand-cut mosaic composed of reclaimed ceramic tile and contour-cut handmade subway tile, fabricated in my Minneapolis studio using upcycled material from Mercury Mosaics’ production stream.
